Network-Based CCTV Surveillance System

Monsterbytes Cafe — 2026

Led the full design and implementation of a network-based CCTV surveillance system. Deployed and configured Tapo C260 IP cameras over a structured LAN/Wi-Fi network with remote access and comprehensive documentation.

problem

  • The cafe had no proper surveillance system beyond manual staff observation, creating significant security gaps for theft, vandalism, and incident resolution.
  • The existing guest Wi-Fi and any potential camera traffic shared one flat network with no isolation, posing a security risk.

architecture

  • Single-node wireless architecture: the Tapo C260 connects directly to the cafe's Wi-Fi router.
  • A static IP was reserved for the camera to ensure a stable connection.
  • The owner accesses the system via the cloud-based Tapo app for remote viewing, without complex VPN setups.

technologies

  • TP-Link Tapo C260 IP camera
  • 8MP sensor, 4K Ultra HD resolution
  • Cafe Wi-Fi network (2.4GHz band)
  • Tapo mobile application

security

  • Strong credentials on the Tapo app, including a complex password.
  • Remote viewing via the cloud-based Tapo app; the camera itself is not directly exposed to the internet, mitigating the risk of unauthorized access.

what i built

  • +Complete system design and network plan with the camera strategically placed behind the cashier counter.
  • +Secure IP setup with a reserved static IP address for the Tapo C260.
  • +Full mobile app configuration with step-by-step instructions for the cafe owner.
  • +Complete project report including hardware and software specifications and a troubleshooting guide.

what i learned

  • +Planning is crucial for success: a clear project plan (WBS and Gantt chart) is essential for effective time management and task delegation.
  • +Wi-Fi has limitations for high-resolution video: the 4K camera depends heavily on a stable Wi-Fi signal, so location testing for the best signal was critical.
  • +Documentation is a key deliverable: the project documentation, including setup guides and budget breakdowns, is the client's primary resource to operate and maintain the system.

current status

Deployed and running. The complete project report, including setup guides, budget breakdowns and a troubleshooting guide, has been handed over to the cafe owner.
